Turkish-American astrophysicist Feryal özel was one of the key scientists who created the first-ever image of a black hole: the 6.5 billion solar mass black hole in the heart of the nearby galaxy, M87. Here we are in conversation Click here

Image of the 6.5 billion solar mass black hole in the nearby galaxy M87 taken with the Event Horizon Telescope, a global array of radio dishes. Although compared with its parent galaxy the black hole is tiny, it is bigger than our Solar System.

The 6.5 billion solar mass black hole in M87 and the 4.3 million mass black hole, known as Sagittarius A*, at the heart of our Milky Way Galaxy. Although they appear the same size in the sky, the black hole in M87 is in fact 1500 times bigger.
